Engagement Photoshoot

The best tip I can think of for this series would be making the couple kiss slowly. I found that it worked really well, it allowed me to capture a lot of really intimate moments.

Capturing an Angel

Spent a beautiful sunny day capturing an angel. Luckily, although it was fall, the sun made the weather warm enough that my lovely model didn’t require extra layers to keep from becoming cold. Before we even started the shoot she was already getting plenty of attention for her stunning dress and beautiful angel wings. Then during the shoot had many people passing by offer their compliments. One gentleman even offered to join the shoot, just in case we needed someone else for any reason ^_^ He was a good sport though and took our no thank you politely. I’ve shot her before and it was a pleasure to shoot her again, this time for her own personal portraits. She takes direction well and loved all of the compliments. We had a lot of fun, I look forward to working with her again :) If you’re interested in the how to or booking a shoot feel free to drop me a line, I would love to hear from you.

Portraits of an Adult

Everyone wants to get just one more picture before or after grad. Documenting the first moment you start to feel like an adult. Leaving highschool behind and venturing into the big, wide world. I was happy to document just such an occasion for my younger sister. She wanted to get pictures taken of the dress she bought to wear underneath her graduation gown. So we went to a school with a beautiful yellow wall at night time to take a few. I used my flash to help add some brightness, although the area was already pretty well lit. It was set off to the side of her so it wouldn’t be in the shot and did it ever light the place up! The photos turned out fantastic and since I loved the colour I really pushed the vibrance and saturation in post production. Also the contrast but that’s just something I like to do with all of my photos, it gives them a look that really says this is my work. Since I also wanted to get a couple where she was the main subject matter and not the colours I took a few shots without the flash. Once back home we took a few more in front of a wall I keep clear for just such purposes. She stood on top of a stool so I could easily take the pictures from a bit of a bug’s eye view. Being quite the character we managed to get some interesting and fun shots. However I did also manage to get a nice shot of the dress. Thanks for taking a look, feel free to leave a comment or critique!

Leopard Print Princess

Terribly sorry for the long hiatus, I’m afraid with all of my memory and cards full I was unable to edit anything I had shot or shoot anything new! Luckily though I have gotten my hands on another external hard drive so I am now able to edit everything I have already shot. Then with some time I should be able to burn old photoshoots onto discs so I’ll finally be able to have free space on my laptop again for new shoots. Anyways all of that a side, take a look at this fantastic photoshoot I had during the summer! Looking stunning in her leopard print dress this prom princess is commemorating her graduation in style! Even her mother is rocking the print for this memorable photoshoot. I really like images with high contrast and colour that really pops. A great way that I found to help make the colour really stand out is to under expose a little bit and then in post production use fill light. This usually gives the image a really dull hue but once you adjust the lights and the shadows those colours tend to just leap off of the image. Let me know what you think about how this photoshoot turned out in the comments section below!

Graffiti

Continuing to clean out my hard drive so I can start shooting again I found another photoshoot I did a while ago. My friends and I heard that this area was being torn down so we wanted to capture the graffiti before it was gone. As you can see the area was also being used as an improvised skate park! Since it’s graffiti I felt that the images needed more of a pop so I edited them a bit different then I usually do. I increased the contrast and saturation so that way they’re really eye catching! Thanks for having a look and be sure to tell me what you think!

Tofino

While adventuring in Tofino I had to capture it’s natural beauty so I whipped out my camera and took a ton of pictures!! Out of all of them these were my favourites. Finding some sea shell art at my favourite beach, Halfmoon Bay, I had to take some pictures to share! I also found that Tofino is a lovely location for taking portraits. The forest was especially handy for portraiture, since it’s in the shade I was able to get some great shots without having to deal with the intense shadows cast from the beautiful sun shine. A couple of the images I did decide to shoot in the sun light so I just exposed for the highlights and lightened up the shadows in post. With the beautiful scenery, I would definitely love to go back for more photoshoots! Feel free to leave me a comment or critique!

3 Inches of Blood 2009 Concert

The slideshow is conveniently located on youtube for your viewing pleasure.

Sorry about the sudden but inevitable hiatus! I’m afraid I haven’t had the chance to shoot much lately since my hard drive is in bad need of a cleaning, I have no room to add new content to it. Since cleaning takes a lot of time I have conveniently found the internet to distract me from it! However I have decided to finally get started on this very long task and thought I’d share some of my finds. Here’s a slideshow hot off the press, or Lightroom rather. It’s of the 3 Inches of Blood concert I went to in 2009! I shot it with my Canon xsi so excuse the graininess, if you have a thing against that sort of stuff, but personally I think it goes well with the whole metal concert feel. Looking back on these photos made me reflect on some of the lessons I learned from this shoot. First of all I really regret not having the guts to stand up at the front to photograph like I usually do at local metal concerts. Luckily I went with a tall friend of mine so he was kind enough to give me a boost for some of the concert, so take note: if you’re going to a concert and you don’t feel like shooting at the front bring a tall friend along. Ok all joking a side, one thing I did really like from shooting from the back was it allowed me to capture the moments when everyone had their horns in the air! Definitely something I’m going to have to remember to photograph at ever metal concert I go to. Another thing I realized is that I really have to get over my whole never use a flash thing. I worry about it being annoying but it would really be handy to capture a couple of great shots. I figure as long as I don’t over do it they won’t get mad, right? There were a couple of shots where I caught someone else’s flash and I really like the effect it gave me! I would love to practice shooting more shows, I really need to work at getting a shot of every member of the band. I find that the drummer is usually the hardest to capture! Well practice makes better, now I just need some free space to be able to shoot more shows! Anyways, hope you enjoyed and rock on!! Also comments and critiques are appreciated!

Fairweather Father

A while ago I shot a metal concert that a friend of mine was playing at. This is what I got, comments and critiques are appreciated!

Enjoying the Sunshine

My latest photoshoot was a rather enjoyable one. I had a photoshoot booked with someone that I was dying to capture in an all white outfit in an open field. I found a cute little field in the middle of an urban area that worked perfectly for it. The only thing that would have made the shoot better would have been a bit of rain. Usually I don’t shoot with such harsh lighting so I’m really glad that the pictures turned out so well. Comments and critiques are welcome.

A Little Bit Suggestive

Finally did a new photoshoot. The long hiatus was great for my creative juices!! I was commissioned to do an erotic photoshoot, here are the more appropriate images from the shoot. It was a lot of fun to just jump right into a new area of photography that I haven’t had much opportunity to explore and get my feet wet. Excuse the inappropriate jokes ;D The shoot did have a bit of a fetish feel to it which only made it all the more fun! I hope to be getting more gigs like this in the future. Also I realize the last image isn’t really erotic or kinky but what better way to end a socially awkward photoshoot then with a bit of comedy? Comments and critiques are welcome <3
